Creativity in Technology

Jakmel Ekspresyon staff have decided that they want to be the tech center of Jacmel. Armed with the knowledge that they have already created one new economy for Jacmel, they are eager to create a new economy in technology. Businesses in Haiti have invested in digital solutions but the youth are not gaining the knowledge they need to interface with those technologies in the job sector.

Even the basic computer class can increase our students access to jobs. We however think that technology isn’t the whole answer. Blending creativity in the education of coding, robotics, film, 3D design, mapping and more will nurture more innovative problem solvers. Therefore, we are not just educating workers but rather we are educating citizens that are great workers.

Kid’s robotics, ages 8 to 15, is associated with the World Robot Olympiad (WRO). The WRO assigns themes each year that the students learn about and then create solutions for. The Coding class focuses on websites and apps that can uplift the community.

We know that once we have graduated our first class of coders, these graduates will go teach in other schools and community centers. In a few years we will have a thriving workforce in technology. We hope that in the future we can help other regional organizations to set up kids robotics clubs. The earlier we start the more success we will see.
